Cosmonius high specification
price: $30
Compatibility: Oculus Quest 2, Steam VR
Cosmonious High is looking to put a whole new galactic spin on the next Meta experience with a high school virtual simulator to complement the already popular Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator titles at Owlchemy Labs for Oculus Quest 2 and Steam VR.
As a Laptop Mag resident space student – and a giant kid – it just seemed fitting that I take this VR app for a spin. Plus, disguising as a freshman at a strange high school seemed a lot more fun, perhaps less legal than anything not entirely terrifying. Not kissed A situation that I can manage in the real world.
The developer team Cosmonious High is a colorful, intricate blend of “Sesame Street Meet Fraggle Rock” and as a nostalgic human now born in the mid-’80s, that’s all I needed to hear before accepting this assignment from the editors. Call me impulsive.
Is it time for your family to sign up for Cosmonious High? To find out, I spent an entire afternoon walking around the virtual Owlchemy School of my country Oculus Quest 2 Earphone. Read on to see how my Alienation tutorial goes.
Cosmonius High Price and Availability
Cosmonious High was released in late March and is available for Oculus Quest 2 and Steam VR platforms; Both versions cost $30. As far as I’m concerned, that’s a decent price for any tuition, because this one-time fee gives you a full trip into an off-planet private school—and five individual IDs, to boot. This is much cheaper than any study abroad opportunity I could have had in my college days.
Cosmonius High back to school
When I first opened the app, I entered the lobby/classroom at Cosmonious High, which, as affected by my surroundings, appears to be a colored ball floating in space with a yellow spaceship-like school bus docked on one side. Once I picked out my student ID and checked the virtual paw, my class teacher told me that my alien species was called Prismi, which is famous for “automatically adapting in times of need.” It seems useful.
My class teacher said, I’m the only post on Cosmonious High, adding an extra layer of uniqueness to my avatar while navigating the school grounds – err, space. But at first, I had to pick up a backpack, check myself in the mirror, and hop on the bus.
High school is inevitably full of drama, and the team at Owlchemy wastes no time bringing that drama to your glowing fingertips. After a ride on the intergalactic twisted school bus, which I activated via the switch, it zooms right in to Cosmonious High: “Where everything is just fine.” Is that it though? Because if my old high school let kids take the wheel and drive their own bus route when they are picked up every day, I would have grown up to be a career burialer for sure.
No wonder, my bus hit the same high school, and I have some fires to put out – literally – before introducing myself to my fellow students. It’s great, because as Prismi, I automatically grew my water-carrying powers when those fires broke out, which came in handy—ahem—to put them out. Every time you activate a new ability, there is Mario 64-esque cutscene to celebrate it, complete with haptic feedback on the consoles.
Certain parts of the school remain unlocked until you complete various quests, side quests, and puzzles, which were really fun to discover when I was moving from one colorful environment to the next. To be honest, it’s kind of overstimulating. I could have done more earth tones, which might be a cynical request, but Maeves. My eyeballs can only handle about 30 minutes of Cosmonious VR at a time. Once the entrance was clear of pesky fires, I wandered my way to the chemistry class, which was already attended by a few of my other classmates.
Bonus: You can interact dynamically with all the colorful characters you come across, and this includes random high fives. calendar!
Cosmonius High Classroom, Activities and Puzzles
Unlike my old high school, which was relegated to pesky 45-minute classes every day, it seems you can walk around from class to class as you wish at Cosmonious High, which is great, because the hall goes by so miserable. In a chemistry class, I helped a student do an out-of-the-box science experiment using the forces of ice-throwing inside a Cartoon Particle Collider.
Next, I followed the teacher’s instructions to create – and then accidentally burn – a substance called Stickium using the “alchemist” from my cosmic chemistry set. I really had a great time with these interactive ingredients, which feels like real alchemy from a fun alternative world.
Next, I switched to Visualetics, an aptly named classroom environment where you can create all kinds of interactive art. For example, I picked up some giant paintballs in the Splat area and threw them on the whiteboard on the wall to create some smears of color – all over the floor. Excuse me. Then, I spoke with a nearby student and used my crystal building power to make them a sword and shield for some invisible adventure that they kept on going.
As you complete more classroom missions and interact with other classmates scattered throughout the game, you gain greater access to the different sections of Cosmonious High, while getting a hint that something is a little funky with the management. (It’s also possible that the school was hit by meteors just before I arrived. There are actual fires in the corridors, after all.)
In order to be able to reach the great hall, I first had to repair the circles outside the door with crystal building powers. Here’s a video of me figuring it out in real time:
Cosmonius High Playability – and jokes!
After a few hours of wandering the halls and experimenting with my space abilities, I began to see what the Owlchemy team meant by saying “Sesame Street meets Fraggle Rock.” While your little one who barely knows how to read and write might have a lot of fun with all those colorful puzzles and classroom experiences, if you look around Cosmonious High yourself – Pittsburgh-style dad – There are plenty of clever jokes scattered around the school to keep your uber development fun. Take this scroll board from the Great Hall, for example.
This comic Easter egg might be my favorite part of the game. I definitely found myself laughing at myself as I started looking for new jokes in every room. Good news: the smarter you are, the more entertaining you will find every school day. (Not to mention the quirky ads in the background.) And not for nothing, but this title has an E10+ rating for blunt humor, so I expect the writing to stay consistently smart while you unlock the rest of Cosmonious High with your fellow aliens. The ESRB He takes their fart jokes very seriously, after all, and I should know.
A high school experience would be nothing without Taco Tuesday, so in the spirit of my little freak adventure, I grabbed some tacos to smash between classes. Experiencing galaxies builds appetite, after all.
minimum
Cosmonious High is a clever high school human experience interactive experience that is surprisingly immersive. Owlchemy Labs says this is the largest interactive playground they’ve built to date, which gave me plenty of room to stretch my prismatic stem and confidently project those weird powers.
