The global smartphone market grew 9% q-o-q to 342 million units in the fourth quarter of 2021. Smartphone shipments in India fell 8% YoY to over 45 million units in the fourth quarter of 2021. Smartphone shipments in China fell 11% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2021 to more than 83.8 million units. HONOR increased its market share to about 17% to become the second largest OEM in China for the first time after becoming an independent company. LATAM’s smartphone shipments grew 9% q-o-q in the fourth quarter of 2021 to 34.8 million units.

However, the annual growth rate remained constant. Apple shipped 81.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2021. In China, Apple emerged as the number one player, capturing nearly a quarter of the total market. 5G smartphone shipments are up 35% year over year and 25% qoq led by Apple. The Big Five brands contributed about 85% of total 5G shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021.
