The 2022 US Open odds: Surprising PGA picks, and golf predictions from a model who managed to win the Masters

The PGA schedule continues to advance, with two Grand Slams this season having come and gone already. The third main race of the season will take place June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts, with the 2022 US Open. Several golfers secured their place on the field this past weekend, including the runner-up in the PGA Championship Will Zalatoris. He was joined by Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley as golfers who booked their place at the 2022 US Open.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is the 11-1 favorite at the 2022 US Open odds at Caesars Sportsbook, closely followed by Jon Ram (12-1). PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas joined forces with Rory McIlroy and Colin Morikawa at 14-1. SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been super hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, he’s raised over $9,500 on his best bets since that point, tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Justin Thomas in his best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet was +1600, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $800. At the 2022 Masters, Model McClure was to win over Scotty Schaeffler’s first major championship win in his career before the weekend.

Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Colin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open, even though he was shooting 40-1. The model was also throughout John Ram’s (10-1) grand slam win at the 2021 US Open. Ram was two blocks from the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still predicted him as the winner.

This same model has also had a huge eight major contracts entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now with the 2022 US Open golf tournament fast approaching, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results are surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see the predicted leaderboard.

Highest Predictions for the 2022 US Open

One huge surprise the model invites at the 2022 US Open: Schaeffler, the world’s number one player and tournament favourite, falters and barely makes it past the top five. Schaeffler has been on fire this season, racking up four wins and seven top ten spots, most notably his victory in Augusta. But he has cooled down a bit in the past few weeks.

He has finished 15th or worse in his last three events and has missed the PGA Championship. He also found little success at the US Open, losing the cut twice in four attempts. The model doesn’t like him at these excellent odds, making him a golfer fading into your US Open bets 2022.

Another surprise: Brooks Koepka, his 18-1 long shot, is shooting hard at the 2022 US Open. He has a much better chance of winning everything than his odds suggest, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge win.

Koepka won his first major at the 2017 US Open before successfully defending his title one year later. He added a win at the 2018 PGA Championship and then defended that title the following year. Koepka had eight of the top 10 titles during an impressive 11 major tournaments from 2017 to 2019.

He hasn’t been able to maintain that success recently, but he won the 2021 Phoenix Waste Management Open. Koepka has played in only two tournaments since early April, the Masters and the PGA Championship. He’s still focused on winning the biggest sporting events, making him a solid 18-1 bet at the 2022 US Open.
