On Friday, the Oscar-winning actor appeared in the second episode. Smith’s episode opened with a disclaimer that said, “The episode was taped prior to the 2022 Academy Awards.”

Toward the end of the interview, Smith, 53, discussed his realization that “the material world is totally, utterly, utterly incapable of sustaining our happiness.”

“Beyond the basics of protecting yourself and your family,” added Letterman, 75.

“You can’t protect your family, can you?” Smith said. “It’s not real. Protection and security are an illusion. You have to learn to live with the fact that at any moment, anything can be gone in a second.”

In the same interview, Smith talked about his November 2021 memoir “Will”. The diary contained explicit details, including his son Jaden Smith asked about becoming an emancipated minor at age 15.

“The first line of chapter one is, ‘I’ve always considered myself a coward,’” Smith Letterman said. “When I was nine, I saw my father beating my mother, and I did nothing. This made a painful impression of myself as a coward.”

Smith added that thinking while writing his memoirs helped him become a more relatable actor.

“Life is so exciting to me right now,” he said, “because I can reach people differently than I have ever been able to reach, largely because of my pain.” “I’m really willing to dive into my art in a way that I think will be satisfying to me and beneficial to the human family.”

The academy launched an official review of the incident by Smith was banned from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years.
